Universal Android TV Remote
Effective 2026-06-09 Last updated 2026-06-09
VelaTV Remote ("the app", "we") is an offline-only Android TV remote control application. This privacy policy describes, in plain language, exactly what data the app handles.
None.
VelaTV Remote does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on remote servers. The app does not contact any external server we operate or any third-party service. There is:
For the app to work, the following information is saved locally on your device only (Android DataStore preferences). It never leaves the phone:
You can clear all of this at any time:
When you tap the microphone button on the remote screen, the app uses
Android's built-in SpeechRecognizer. By Android system policy,
this can run fully on-device on supported devices (Android 12+ with the
Speech Services pack). The recognized text is then forwarded to the
connected TV's search box over the same local TLS connection.
The recorded audio is never stored by us and never leaves your phone.
All communication is direct, peer-to-peer, between your phone and your TV
on your local Wi-Fi network. The app uses the publicly documented
_androidtvremote2._tcp protocol over TLS 1.2+ on ports
6466/6467. No proxy, no relay, no cloud.
The app is not directed at children. It does not collect any data, so COPPA / GDPR-K provisions effectively do not apply.
VelaTV Remote is built on open-source components (Jetpack Compose, Kotlin Coroutines, Material 3, BouncyCastle, Android Jetpack). See Settings → Legal → Open Source Licenses inside the app for the full list.
If we ever change the privacy posture (which we do not plan to), we will update the "Last updated" date above and publish the change on the same page where this policy is hosted.
